![]() ![]() what bonfires are lit, what items are picked up, what events have and haven't occurred. These files seem to contain the information regarding your characters world as far as I can tell. (Edit: Also if it's on a HDD I figure it also wipes USER_DATA itself too, but I'm on a USB so I haven't encountered this myself.) When the game says that it's starting in offline mode and then says that "Calibrations are restricted", the game has wiped the files USER_DATA0b-14. I believe I've figured out what causes the loss of bonfires/progression/etc. Additionally, it's been brought to my attention that you need to level up at least once for the game to register the ability to respec. If you use your an Aged Feather it should teleport you back to Things Betwixt and you can run through re-unlocking them. Some additional Info You have to re-unlock bonfires with this method. Move your USB back to your Xbox, select your lv 1 characters and they should load as the characters your replaced them with. This is probably overkill but I do it anyway, don't judge me. When you are done select "Save, Rehash, and Resign" Personally I select it twice, then Save to Device, then select it twice again. only the ones with numbers, the first USER_DATA with no numbers should NOT be touched For each USER_DATA replace with the character files you previously extracted in step 7. Right click each of the USER_DATA files and select Replace. Once you have your save with a bunch of blank characters, move the USB back to Horizon, click the save, and go back to the Contents section. You'll want to create 1 new character for each character you need to recover. Character creations doesn't matter, just get to the bonfire and then quit out. With each character you'll want to run through to the first bonfire in Things Betwixt. ![]() Replace the USB into the Xbox, start a new save file on it, and start creating new characters. You should have your backup save file in place if anything messes up and your individuals characters extracted by this point. Once you have extracted your characters, close that window and in the Device Explorer section you want to DELETE the entire save file. These are your individual characters now. Each slot that you have a character in you'll want to right click and select "Extract". USER_DATA01 is your first save file, USER_DATA02 is your 2nd save file, etc. Click the "Contents" tab and you will see a bunch of files named USER_DATA#. Don't touch this file anymore, this is considered your base backup file in the event that anything goes wrong.īack in Horizon, select the save file from the Device Explorer and it should load, it will look like this. You'll want to zip this or put it somewhere. This is your save container, it has all your characters. IMPORTANT Take the save file from the explorer and drag-n-drop onto the desktop. Plug your USB into the computer, you should now see your USB with a Dark Souls 2 save on the Device Explorer section of Horizon, it should auto-expand outward but if not just select Device Explorer and you'll see it. Make sure you use "Move", "Copy" will not work. Move your Dark Souls 2 save from Xbox 360 onto the USB. Start up Horizon on your PC, you can decline to update Horizon as we won't be using those features. note that on "Step 2" of installation there's a spam toolbar type installation prompt, make sure to DECLINE Step 2 and then it should proceed forward with the actual install of Horizon. You'll need a USB formatted for your 360 and a program called Horizon Now before we go into the process I want to make you aware that if you don't follow these steps exactly, you'll probably bunk these saves for good so please don't skip steps.ĭownload and install Horizon. I would highly suggest backing up your save everytime you finish playing from now on until this is patched For whatever reason, anytime the calibration fails and forces you to go into Offline mode, this is a sign that your save is corrupted. Do note that this will load you in at the last bonfire you visited and you'll only have that bonfire and Things Betwixt, but it's better than losing all your progress.ĮDIT After following up on Garjian's testing it seems the corruption is indeed coming from failed calibrations. Regardless here's a method I've discovered to recover these saves that are becoming corrupted by the patch update. As of now it seems this is largely affecting those on Xbox 360 only, and to my knowledge there's no specific cause that's been discovered. So there's a lot of fear regarding the corruption at the moment and concern regarding when a patch will come regarding this. ![]()
